Introducing Supply Clinic Spotlight

Inspired by my close friend Jon Youshaei and his Every Vowel project, I’ve recently decided to start a biweekly content page called Supply Clinic Spotlight to feature dentists and dental professionals that have contributed to the evolution of the field. It is my mission to seek out innovative individuals, highlight their creative processes, and reflect on the struggles and opportunities of turning an idea into reality.

Over the past few years, it has become apparent to me that so many dentists have novel ideas that could shape the future of dentistry. Dentists are wired to tinker, forever attempting to improve instruments, procedures, and outcomes. I’ve had dozens of conversations with dentists about Supply Clinic in which they follow up with “You, know I’ve had this idea…”.

Unfortunately, most dentists are ill-equipped to pursue ideas that can’t be rigged up with tools in clinic. It’s no secret that dental school prepares students to become effective dentists and not much beyond that. More and more, innovation requires the involvement of others with skillsets outside of the practice of dentistry.  

My initial goal with Supply Clinic Spotlight is to showcase those innovative minds that have taken risks and put in legwork to advance the field. I’d ultimately like to create a network of entrepreneurs working in the dental space, and provide resources to those with game-changing ideas. These ideas can be anything ranging from an innovative file-retrieval tool to an app that increases patient engagement and retention.  Starting a practice is complicated enough - starting a venture is a beast of its own.
